The Harford Volunteer Fire Company is a rural department located
in northeastern Pennsylvania at exit 217 of Interstate 81 in Susquehanna
County. We are midway between Scranton, Pennsylvania and Binghamton,
New York. The department protects approximately 7000 people living
in an area of 150 square miles within the townships of Harford,
Gibson, and Lenox. We operate out of one station protecting an
area made up of farms, homes, and woodlands.
We operate two engines, one tanker, one brush truck and two BLS
ambulances. We also house an MCI trailer in cooperation with the
Bradford-Susquehanna EMS Council. Within our district is the Mountain
View Elementary and High School. We cover approximately 10 miles
of Interstate 81, two truck stops and one rural airport. We provide
both fire and EMS coverage for the Harford Agricultural Fair held
for one week during August. Approximately 60,000 people attend
this fair.
We are a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
We are dispatched by the Susquehanna County Communications Center
for all fire and EMS calls. We maintain weekly work/training sessions
and have developed box alarms for the various businesses and regions
in our coverage area.
